Where or who should I go/contact to replace the wire standing rigging of the
shrouds for an Alberg 35?
The mast is off the boat.

Thomas,
You give no hint where you are. So it will be tough to supply
geographicly specific answers.
The reply is in two parts inline.

Call araound to local sailmakers, they will know who and where the local
rigging shops are (if any).
Label all the shrouds and take them off the mast an run them to said
rigging shop.

Did you remove the existing wire yet? You can use that as a messenger.
If you have no messenger, you go and borrow, rent, buy a thing
called a fish tape that electricians use to get wire into conduit. You
must end up with some effective way to support he weight of the wire
(not the little tiny screws in the light) at the truck.

No rocket sceince here. Push the fish tape in from the top there is
usually a small hole there and keep pushing until it come out the foot.
If the boat still has external halyards - this is easy. If you plan to
sleep (ever) on the boat. Make plans to keep the cable from wraping on
the inside of the mast.

Hey Matt,,, why didn't I think of that? Pull the old wire out and bring the
new in as I do it.... the owner of the boat told me he tried to fish up a
new wire and he couldn't get it through. It hit something. Probably the
existing wire.
The problem ... he told me that there is "short" in the wire that goes to
the mast head anchor light.
Gotta have that light..!!
I have only seen this boat once and it was a short visit... I am thinking
about what needs to be done. The usual thoughts.
As for the rigging .. I did look on the West Marine site. But, I don't feel
all that comfortable buying rigging like that.
I would rather take off the old, bring it to a rigger, and have him make
new.
This is only the shrouds. The headstay and backstay were replaced already.

On early Pearson boats like the Albergs, the ends of the mast can be removed
with only moderate violence. Most of the fittings and tracks were held to
the mast extrusion by screws, so the inside of the tube is pretty prickly,
making for occasional snags in snaking wiring. There is no inner conduit
for wiring, so it's a good idea to take measure to prevent the wiring
harness from slattting about, abrading itself and keeping you awake at
night.. One way to do this is to apply, at 3-4' intervals, a set of maybe
4-5 nylon cable ties with their tails oriented radially, so that the provide
a set of springy whiskers to hold the harness in the middle of the tube. Of
course, with all that prickliness on the inside, internal halyards are out
of the question.

Jim,, you are right on about the ends of the mast. Where do you get all
your info?
Here is the problem. The owner of the boat, he is a very knowledgeble
fellow, told me about the light and the short circuit. He said he had tried
to snake a wire but it wouldn't get through. Then he pointed out the end of
the mast, the base that is connected to the mast by screws. He said that
the screws have been on the mast for so long that trying to turn them would
probably break them. Aha,, that there is the problem!
The problem isn't the wires [well, it is but it can be fixed ] but the
getting the mast shoe off.
If I end up getting the boat, I will first try to snake.
You bring up a question ?? Are there internal halyards in the mast? I
never asked or thought to ask.

The screws will probably torque off when you try to remove them. No matter.
Drill out whatt remains of them. Then comes the nasty part. Separating the
cast part from the tube will take hammer. cold chisel, solvents heat and bad
language.
Before replacing the mast base, enlarge the hole for the wire harness so you
don't have to fight with the base again.
Internal halyards are a later invention and while desirable would not be
practical in this case because of all teh other nasty hardware which is
screwed, rather than welded, to the mast.
Get a copy of Nigel Calder's book on boat systems.
